AIC comment on Vietnam’s Cybersecurity Law

Download: AIC comment on Vietnam’s Cybersecurity Law

AIC is disappointed that the National Assembly has voted in favour of this Cybersecurity law. The provisions for data localisation, controls on content that affect free speech, and local office requirements will undoubtedly hinder the nation’s 4th Industrial Revolution ambitions to achieve GDP and job growth. Unfortunately, these provisions will result in severe limitations on Vietnam’s digital economy, dampening the foreign investment climate and hurting opportunities for local businesses and SMEs to flourish inside and beyond Vietnam. Nonetheless, we hope to continue positive engagement with the government, supporting both policy makers and the people of Vietnam as the work towards creating a digital future for Vietnam continues.
