Vietnam’s recently passed cybersecurity law has created great uncertainty for investors and is hurting the country’s reputation as a good place for the world to do business in. We strongly feel that controls on data flows and restrictions on free speech will stifle growth for local entrepreneurs and businesses and deter foreign investment in the country. AIC is committed to continue engaging with the Government of Vietnam on how the law will be implemented. Nevertheless, Vietnam will need a more progressive approach and smart regulations on internet technology and digital services to benefit its economy and people in the long term.
